Ruppel in the Vorstadt at the Hessentag

Local bakery “Ruppel” have closed their shop in the pedestrian precinct area of Oberursel for the duration of the Hessentag.

Instead they have set up two stalls in front of the shop, one selling bakery products such as slices of cake (“Blechkuchen”), and the other selling Bratwurst sausages.

Here, as at most stalls, the prices have stayed reasonable.  A Bratwurst costs €2.50.

Ruppel’s stalls are every day until 10pm.

The Hessentag Nature Trail

The Hessentag got underway in Oberursel this morning.  But before the grand opening one part of the festival was opened separately.  It is called “Der Natur auf der Spur”.

Roughly translated, that means “Nature Trail”, and the area is located at the Maasgrund – an area just outside the old part of the town where many people go for walks.

For the Hessentag the usually green fields have been covered with wood chippings and an assortment of stalls, tents and tractors have appeared to exhibit the latest countryside trends.

The area was opened by Lucia Puttrich, Hesse’s minister for the environment and the countryside.  With her were the Hessentagspaar, the chief administrator (Landrat) of Hesse – Ulrich Krebs, and Detlef Stys of “Hessen Forst”.  They were greeting by a group of Jagdhorn (post horn) players from Bad Homburg and Usingen. Jazz Meeting at the musikhalle portstrasse

This evening while most of Oberursel was getting ready for the Hessentag which starts tomorrow, one group of musicians were already giving their first concert.

The Jazz Meeting” was held at the musikhalle portstraße and involved music students from Italy, Poland, Germany and France along with teachers from the same twinned regions of those countries: Achille Succi (saxophone), Krzysztof Przybylowicz (drums), Jeanmarie Ribis (piano), Dominque Di Piazza (bass) and Michael Sagmeister (guitar).

With about 20 guests close-up to the performers, it was amazing to see how they were able to adapt not only to the different styles and rhythms, but even to go so far as to re-configure the drum kit whilst still playing it!

The students performed in small groups are currently practising for their Hessentag performances at the Burgwiesenhalle in Bommersheim.  Their final performance will be on Saturday at 5pm at the Marktplatz.
