The Apple Wine Festival at the Hessentag

This evening one of the main events at the Hessentag in Oberursel was the Apple Wine Festival, with Ministerpräsident Volker Bouffier and the Mayor of Oberursel, Hans-Georg Brum, opening the proceedings by hitting a tap into a barrel of apple wine.

The event took place in the Hessischer Rundfunk tent, and was recorded for showing tomorrow evening at 10pm.

Although I was not at the event itself, I was able to attend the rehearsal this afternoon and watch as camera positions were set up with stand-ins, and with cardboard cut-outs placed at the tables to represent the VIP guests. [Read more…]

Discounts during the Hessentag

Walking through the centre of Oberursel this morning, I spotted the following discounts in local shops.  All are valid until the end of the Hessentag, although you should contact the shop directly for further information.

Kamm & Scherer – all hair cuts are at half price

Minoo – 50% off everything

Naturläufer – 10% discount

Mann Mode für Kinder – 50% off a range of items

(All of these shops are in the Vorstadt or just around the corner in the Strackgasse).

Guildo Horn at the Hessentag

Wednesday night was Guildo Horn night at the hr-Treff – the local public service broadcaster’s stage.

To many readers outside Germany, Guildo Horn is probably best remembered for representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham in 1998, where he climbed part of the scaffolding at the side of the stage during his act.

He appeared with his band, the Orthpädische Strümpfe (literally the “orthopaedic stockings”), and the tent was filled with several hundred fans.
