A spectactular fire show at the Feyerey

The annual middle ages market, the Feyerey, was held in Oberursel last week with a spectacular fire show which involved two groups performing together for the very first time.

My article about it is on the front page of the Oberurseler Woche this week. Click here to read it (in German) or here to see photos of the show.

Feuriges Spektakel im Orscheler Mittelalter

It doesn’t have to be a car

Of course, I guess you could use bio-ethanol in other areas where fossil fuels have been used until now.

Here is one example: a table-top bio-ethanol fire.  It is made of glass and uses 1/2 litre of bio-ethanol to burn for 6 hours.

It looks very interesting, but will it keep you warm on a cold winter night?

Osterfeuer

An Osterfeuer is a bonfire that is lit on the evening of Easter Saturday, usually in connection with a Church service.

Different parts of Germany associate the fire with different traditions.  In Bavaria it is also called the Judasfeuer and a straw figure, similar to a guy, is burnt upon the fire representing Judas Iscariot.  In Westfalia it is said to banish the winter.

Some churches have a candle-light service on Saturday evening rather than a fire.
