430,000 visitors at the first Hessentag weekend

Oberursel is well on its way to reaching the target of 1 Million visitors during the 10-day Hessentag in the coming week.

The first three days of the event saw 430,000 visitors come to the town, according to a statement by the local Hesse Government.  15,000 of them went to the Roxette concert last night and another 50,000 were at Just White on Saturday night.

Almost a third of the visitors went to the Landesausstellung outside the town in an area called the Drei Hasen.  This is something of a County Show and is well worth visiting, although in my opinion it has been under-publicised.

Many of the county ministries and departments have stands there in Hall 1, and in Hall 2 a lot of the local tourist attractions have information stands and leaflets to encourage visitors to go and see them in the summer.  Organisations such as the police, Red Cross and charities such as World Vision are also exhibiting there, with lots of things for children to do.

With Monday almost behind us, there are still six days left to visit the Hessentag.

Where to get the train-shaped balloons at the Hessentag

For the past few days I have noticed that a lot of children at the Hessentag have been carrying helium-filled balloons that are shaped like the S-Bahn trains that stop at Oberursel’s main station.

Today I found out just how popular they are.  Once my daughter had one flying behind her, people kept stopping us to ask where to get them.

Bank holiday and Sunday trains to the Hessentag

The trains to the Hessentag today (Whit Monday) are running to a special bank holiday timetable.

Although this has been extended for the Hessentag, it still means that until 11am the trains only run every 30 minutes.

Which I why when I arrived at the station this morning, this was the information board that greeted me:

The same timetable will be in operation next Sunday (19th June).
