Blood Donation Relay reached Oberursel

Saturday, 12th October, 2013 saw the blood donation relay organised by the Red Cross blood donation service in Hessen and Baden-Württemberg reach Oberursel.
The relay is taking part to celebrate 150 years of the Red Cross and 60 years of the blood donation service in Hessen, and as such is visiting 210 locations in 184 days.
In Oberursel it was Mayor Hans-Georg Brum, himself a blood donor, who took over the relay baton from the service’s representative Christine Winkler. He thanks all of the volunteers in the local Red Cross association for their work, in particular during the Hessentag and other events in the town such as the Fountain Festival (Brunnenfest).
“I am glad that we have an ambulance service in Oberursel”, he said.

He also commented on the state of the Red Cross building in the Marxstraße: “I know, that it’s not so good”, he said, but promised that talks were already taking place with the association’s committee to improve the situation.
The blood donation service visits Oberursel on the second Saturday of each month at the Red Cross centre in the Marxstraße between 1.30pm and 6pm. There are also two appointments each year in Weißkirchen. Sign up to our newsletter to receive advance notice of them.
Stammtisch at the Seniorentreff

The Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be holding a Stammtisch on Friday, 18th October, 2013 between 5pm and 8.30pm in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9).
The Stammtisch is a place to discuss anything and everything that those attending wish to.
Energy saving advice

The Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 17th October, 2013.
Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.
3,000 step walk for senior citizens

The Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be offering a 3,000 step walk on Wednesday, 16th October, 2013. The walk will go through the old part of the town (Altstadt) and be led by Marion Unger.
To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.
Movies4Youngsters at Bluebox Portstrasse

A new series of films continues on Sunday, 20th October, 2013 at 3pm at the Bluebox cinema in the Portstraße (next to Café Portstraße), located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
“Movies4Youngsters” are films for children aged between 12 and 15 years of age.
As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.
Friday Night Jazz at the Portstrasse

The musikhalle portstrasse is holding a “Friday night Jam Session” on Friday, 18th October, 2013 at 8pm.
Entry is free.
The “musikhalle” is located opposite the U-Bahn station “Altstadt” on the U3 line.
Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

Tuesday night is film night at Bluebox Portstraße, located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 15th October, 2013, we are told that it will be a current German film. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.
The showing starts at 9pm.
Flea Market in the Adenauerallee

The monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 19th October, 2013 between 7am and 1pm.
The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.
To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.
