The “Ratsherrensaal” inside Oberursel’s historic town hall at the market place is a view that not many people get to see. It is generally only open to the public twice a year when new residents are given a tour of the town. Otherwise it is only available for special events and can be hired for wedding ceremonies.

Friday night music at Musikhalle Portstraße
Friday night is music night at Musikhalle Portstraße, located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
On Friday, 24th October, 2014, the “Newcomer TV Night” is being held with the following bands playing:
- Revolution Eve (Post-Alternative-Rock)
- How About Coffee (Alternative-RockPopPunk)
- Dinner4Trees (Akustik-PopRock)
- Shortless (Indie-Roots-Reggae)
Doors open at 8pm for a 8.30pm start and entry costs €2.
3,000 step walk for senior citizens
The Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be offering a 3,000 step walk on Wednesday, 22nd October, 2014.
To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.
Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße
Tuesday night is film night at Bluebox Portstraße, located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 21st October, 2014, we are told that it will be a comedy. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.
The showing starts at 9pm.
A record number of visitors on the last day of the steam trains
The members of the steam train club (Dampfbahnclub Taunus) in the Mainstraße were not expecting quite so many visitors to turn up last Sunday, 12th October, 2014. After all, a lot of the tracks had already been lifted along with the bridge, turntable and model railway. But on the other hand it was the last chance to take a ride behind one of the miniature steam trains, before the area is cleared to make way for a new school building.
In total there were around 900 adults and 350 children at the last day of the saison, known as the “Abdampfen”, and for the first time in the history of the railway they had to go out during the day and stock up on charcoal for the barbeque.
The visitors had to wait more patiently than usual, with waiting times of up to 15 minutes not unusual despite them having 4 trains running. [Read more…]

Congratulations to Frau Erika Schumann of Weißkirchen who is 95 years old today.
Book reading for children aged 5 and over
The story “Fuzzi” by Alain Serres is being read in the library on Thursday, 16th October, 2014 at 3.30pm by volunteer Edith Nikel-Ruppmann.
Tickets cost €2 and should be reserved in advance in the library or by calling 06171 62870.
Take a tour around the Hohemark
A tour around the area known as the “Hohemark” is being offered on Saturday, 18th Oktober, 2014, at 2pm.
The tour will be guided by Gottfried Cramer from the Hohe Mark clinic.
It starts at the end station of the U3 line and costs €3 per person.
Energy saving advice
The Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 16th October, 2014.
Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.
Flea Market in the Adenauerallee
The monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 18th October, 2014 between 7am and 1pm.
The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.
To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.
