Zumba with Maxima at Café Portstrasse

Zumba with Maxima“Girls only” is the motto at Café Portstrasse on Sunday, 12th October, 2014 with not only the café open from 3pm until 6pm, but also a one-hour Zumba workshop with Maxima at 3pm.

The workshop is free for girls to take part in and comfortable clothing is recommended.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 7th October, 2014, we are told that it will be a family drama. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Flea Market at the Seniorentreff

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be holding a flea market on Saturday, 11th October, 2014 between 9am and 1pm in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9).

They will also be serving coffee, tea, cold drinks, grilled sausages and home-made waffles.

In this month children and teenagers can set up their own stalls in the courtyard by bringing either a table or blanket.  However in the event of bad weather they will not be able to take the stall inside.  They should  also call 06171 585333 in advance to reserve a space.

A celtic funeral pileA tour entitled “Das keltische Leben am Fuße des Feldbergs” (celtic life at the foot of the Feldberg) is being held on Saturday, 11th October, 2014 at 2pm.

The tour starts at the Taunus Information Centre and costs €5 per person, those taking part should have sturdy footwear.

 

Steam trains

DampflokThe Dampfbahnclub-Taunus e.V. steam railway in Oberursel will be open to the public for the last time on their current premises on Sunday, 12th October, 2014 between 10am and 5pm.

Located at the end of the Mainstraße, entry costs €1,50 for adults and €0,50 for children. Children receive one ticket to go on the trains in the entry price, additional tickets are €0,50 each.

To get there, either leave the A661/B455 at “Oberursel-Nord” towards Oberursel, then take the first turning right into the Dornbachstraße. The Mainstraße is on the right-hand side.

By U-Bahn, take the U3 to Lahnstraße and cross the road before turning left into the Dornbachstraße.

Oberursel’s Mayor Hans-Georg Brum giving an interview to a Vietnamese television crew at the cultural festival on Sunday, 21st September 2014.  He was keen to point out that many people living in northern Frankfurt have Vietnamese roots and that there are a number of Vietnamese restaurants in the area.  He saw Vietnam as a “travel destination of future”.

Last Sunday (28th September, 2014), the maize maze in Weißkirchen held their annual autumn festival.  Not only was pumpkin soup on offer, but children also had the chance to carve out their own pumpkins in time for Halloween.

Katharina (left) and Emma-Fee (right), both 6 years old and shown above, were just two of the children behind the barn doing just.  And not for the first time either.  “We’ve been coming for the past 4 years” they told me.

Autumn festival for the active North

The autumn festival in the Rosengärtchen Carrée this year was something that Pastor Cornelia Synek from the Heilig-Geist Parish had been particularly looking forward to, as it was due to be opened by someone who she herself had confirmed a number of years ago: none other than Fountain Queen Carolyn II.

As a former student of Frankfurt International School Carolyn is no stranger to the northern end of Oberursel, something she touched on in her speech: “I know how hard it is for the foreigners to make new contacts here” she said, and pointed out the role of the Church Meeting Point “Aktive im Norden”, which aims to bring people in the northern end of the town together.
