Germania’s spring festival put the youth at the forefront

Visitors to the Gesangverein Germania‘s spring festival at the sports hall in Weißkirchen last weekend, may have noticed some chances to how things have been in previous years.  The festival had undergone a regeneration, starting with the decorations int he hall.  Instead of flowers on the stage, there were colourful luftballons displaying emojis.

The musical programme consisted mainly of the younger groups, with the male and female choirs not singing invidually, but only as the mixed choir.  Outside there were hotdogs instead of Bratwursts, there was a table for the children to draw at, a treasure hunt and hook-a-duck.

It was the “Rotkehlchen” group that started the day’s music, conducted by Eike O. Müller.  Both of their songs were about food.  First they sang “Das ist der Gummibär”, and followed it with an audience-participation song: “Obstsalat” (fruit salad).  The audience were asked to join in with the actions, cutting up apples, oranges and bananas. Worldfest on Sunday

The annual Worldfest at Frankfurt International School takes place on Sunday, 21st May, 2017 this year, between 12 noon and 4pm.

23 stands from the different countries represented at the school we be offering food and drink, with activities for children also taking place.

Please note that car parking facilities are not available at the school on this day.  There will be a shuttle service between the school, Edeka’s car park and The Rolls Royce field.  Visitors should bring their ID card or passport with them.

 

3,000 step walk for senior citizens in Weißkirchen

To take part, be at the “Altes Rathaus” (Urselbachstraße 59) at 9.30am.

To take part, be at the bus stop “Altes Rathaus” in Stierstadt at 3pm.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 23rd May 2017, we are told that it will be a French comedy. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße roadworks

Roadworks sign - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / RedKoalaThe gas and water mains in the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße are due to be replaced starting on Monday, 15th May, 2017 with the work expected to take around nine weeks.  During this time access to the drives of the properties cannot always be guaranteed, although all houses will be accessible by foot.

Book reading for children aged 5 and over

The story “Ach, Boris! Auch ein großer Bär kann sich in einer neuen Schule klein fühlen” by Carrie Weston and Tim Warnes is being read in the library on Tuesday, 16th May, 2017 at 4pm by volunteer Edith Nikel-Ruppmann.

Tickets cost €2 and should be reserved in advance in the library or by calling 06171 62870.

Flea Market in the Adenauerallee

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 20th May 2017 between 7am and 1pm.

The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.

To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.

 

Friday Night Jazz at the Portstrasse

Entry is free.

The “musikhalle” is located opposite the U-Bahn station “Altstadt” on the U3 line.

Stammtisch at the Seniorentreff

The Stammtisch is a place to discuss anything and everything that those attending wish to.

A charge of €7 per person will be made to cover the cost of food and drink and due to the limited number of places reservation by telephone (06171 585333) is requested.
