An election for the Landrat in Hochtaunuskreis is taking place on Sunday, 22nd January 2012.
All German and EU citizens who have been living in the Kreis since 22nd October 2011 and are 18 or over are eligible to vote and by now should have received their polling cards.
Anyone in Oberursel who has not received theirs but believes they are eligible should contact the Einwohnermeldeamt in the Rathaus.
Postal ballots can be applied for until 20th January at 1pm using the form on the reverse side of the polling card, or using the town’s website.
The town of Oberursel would like to remind residents that fireworks may not be let of in the town in the following areas:
– near timber-framed houses, or close enough that the firework could land on one
– near houses with thatched-roofs, or close enough that the firework could land on such a roof
– near churches, hospitals, childrens’ homes and homes for the elderly
This is not just a request but governed by laws on the use of explosives and environmental noise control. Anyone setting of a firework that causes a timber-framed house to catch fire faces not only a fine and claims for damages, but also the possibility of a prison sentence.

This morning a visitor to Oberursel’s Town Hall (Rathaus) attacked one of the workers there with a knife and was overpowered by a member of the Ordnungsamt.
The town hall remained closed for the rest of the morning. The attacker was taken into police custody.
The town employee was treated at the scene and then transferred to hospital. Despite being stabbed in the back, they are apparently out of danger and expected to be discharged possibly as soon as tomorrow.
