It was when Ottmar Görge, now 62 years old, started his placement as a student in Frankfurt in 1974 that he donated blood for the first time.  Since then he has been a regular visitor to the Red Cross blood donor days in Oberursel.

Last Saturday (10th January, 2015) he donated blood for the 125th time, for which he received a certificate and pin showing the number of donations from blood donor service representative Jürgen Swoboda (right) and a hamper from Michaela Tappenden (left) of the local Red Cross group.

Asked why he made a point of coming so regularly, he answered “blood is always needed”.  Something his brother – a surgeon – once told him.
