Germania’s spring festival put the youth at the forefront

Visitors to the Gesangverein Germania‘s spring festival at the sports hall in Weißkirchen last weekend, may have noticed some chances to how things have been in previous years.  The festival had undergone a regeneration, starting with the decorations int he hall.  Instead of flowers on the stage, there were colourful luftballons displaying emojis.

The musical programme consisted mainly of the younger groups, with the male and female choirs not singing invidually, but only as the mixed choir.  Outside there were hotdogs instead of Bratwursts, there was a table for the children to draw at, a treasure hunt and hook-a-duck.

It was the “Rotkehlchen” group that started the day’s music, conducted by Eike O. Müller.  Both of their songs were about food.  First they sang “Das ist der Gummibär”, and followed it with an audience-participation song: “Obstsalat” (fruit salad).  The audience were asked to join in with the actions, cutting up apples, oranges and bananas. Tyre thieves caught in Frankfurt

Two men are accused of stealing a complete set of tyres from an Audi A5 in the early hours of Monday morning (25th January, 2016) in the Mauerfeldstraße in Weißkirchen.  The car was left on wooden blocks.

A witness spotted the theft take place at around 1.15am and called the police.  A short time later, a similar theft was reported in nearby Königstein, with the vehicle used to transport the tyres fitting the description of the one from Weißkirchen.  Armed with the registration number, police were able to look for it specifically and found it in Frankfurt in the Rebstock area at 2am.

The vehicle, a silver van, contained two sets of high-value tyres, one of which was the set from the Mauerfeldstraße.  The two suspects, aged 39 and 45, were arrested.  Both are of no fixed abode and were presented to the custody judge the same afternoon.

Cars damaged in the Mauerweg

A number of cars in the Mauerweg in Weißkirchen were damaged in the early hours of Saturday morning (9th January, 2016).  Within 200m of each other, seven parked cars had their passenger side wing mirror damaged, police suspect that this was done by kicking them.  Some of the mirrors were torn off completely, others only slightly damaged.

A witness reported that she heard a loud bang at around 4.45am and on opening her window saw a man in dark clothing who was doing something to the passenger side of one of the damaged cars.  When he realised that she was watching him, he ran off towards “An der Bleiche”.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oberursel police on 06171 6240-0.

Break-ins in Weißkirchen, Oberstedten and Eichwäldchen

The Christmas holidays had hardly started when three break-ins where reported in Oberursel on Tuesday, 22nd December, 2015.

One house in the Mauerfeldstraße in Weißkirchen was broken into by lifting the shutters on the door to the patio and then forcing the door open.  Jewellery worth €1,400 was stolen.

In the Hauptstraße in Oberstedten burglars tried to gain access to a house by smashing a double-glazed pation door, but failed due to an additional lock installed on its tracks.  Since they could not open that door, they tried to lift a second patio door but did not manage this either.  Eventually they apparently managed to force a gap open using a gardening implement, but as this appears not to have been big enough they fled.  Even though they did not gain access to the property, they caused considerable damage worth around €2,000.

Finally, between 6pm and 9.30pm burglars entered a house in the Feinbergweg.  Here they managed to lift the patio door and and gain access but having search through all the rooms in the property they left empty handed.  The damage here is estimated to be around €300.
